Not fewer than six people have been confirmed killed in different road accidents in Katsina and Lagos states, News Agency of Nigeria reports.
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) said on Monday, January 2 that three people died in an auto-crash at Karfi village on the Malumfashi-Funtua road in Malumfashi local government area of Katsina state.
Abdu Bagadawa, FRSC Sector Commander in the state, said accident occurred when a bus carrying 15 passengers skid off the road as it tried to avoid a pot hole while on high speed.
Three passengers died on the spot while other sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to Malumfashi General Hospital for treatment.
In Lagos, three people died on the same Monday in an accident that involved a Sports Utility Vehicle and a trailer in the Sagamu axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun state.
Clement Oladele, FRSC Sector Commander in Lagos state, said the accident could have been caused by over-speeding.
“The accident occurred around 2 p.m. and the rescue team were on ground to immediately manage the situation.
“The accident, which involved a black Honda CRV with registration number KRD 933DD and White Daf Trailer with registration number JJJ 107 XD, was caused by route violation and speed limit violation.
“The accident involved five persons, two male and three female, in which one male and one female got injured while one male and two female died,” he said.
Mr. Oladele said those injured and those that died were taken to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.
Recall that FRSC also announced recently that a total of 187 people die in road accident during the last Christmas celebrations across Nigeria.
The agency said it recorded this number of deaths in 289 crashes that occurred during last weekend’s Christmas celebrations.
