Did you know that black cats are the most difficult to adopt out? Yes, believe it or not, old wives’ tales, folklore, superstition, and an association with holidays like Halloween and practices such as witchcraft have given the otherwise ordinary kitty a really bad reputation. People actually think they are bad luck (don’t let one cross your path) and, because of such a stigma, shelters and other organizations bent on helping the creatures end up having to care for them much longer than little tabbies or oranges.
We mention this because the gallery below features a few other members of the animal kingdom for whom the world is a lot less monochrome. Oh sure, we still marvel a large black cat, but panthers aren’t perceived the same way as a 10 pound stray. And what about goats? Or foxes? Or even lizards and snakes?
