Nigeria Entertainment Industry Taking The Same Shape As Nigeria Politics

Entertainment and politics are two different worlds on their own, but in Nigeria, I fear they might end up on the same road. And why is this so ?

Right from the political era of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Akitu Abubakar, President Musa Yar’dua, and a host of top politicians, most of these men have been running and ruling the Nigeria Politics since the 1990s’ till date , thereby not leaving any political seat for young blood to take over from the post they so much cherish. I guess this disputes the say that “the future is in the hands on the youths “.

Now, this brings me back to the entertainment sector in Nigeria, from the likes of 2face, Idris Abdulkarim, Tony Tetuila, Olu-Maintain, P-square (though now separated), and a bunch of other old successful Music gods that have been in the music game for long and not even ready to retire, which on the long long obstructs ways for young and ‘weak’ singers in the music line.

Yes! you will say what about the likes of Davido and Wizkid that are making it big even while these old artiste are still there.

Davido is an hard working youth from a rich background (Opportunity meets money), Wizkid was groomed by Banky W, and Banky gave Wizkid lots of opportunities and that is why Wizkid will always include Bankys name when writing his success stories. This is just one positive case in out of  a thousand negative cases in the industry.

Other artiste that have made it don’t have the time to groom upcoming artiste and why is this so ? This is because they still all want there names in the entertainment line thereby slimming the chance of that young artiste to become big.

Recently M.I released a song titled “You Rappers Should Fix Up Your Lives“, if you don’t still have that you can “Download HERE”.

The songs spoke about why M.I can’t retire from the Music scene yet, ‘cus most of these upcoming aren’t well groomed, they only tend to release songs that last just few weeks on the air waves and that is all.

As a music critic, the problem isn’t the young singer, but the old singer who has refused to teach the young singers on how to take over from them in the entertainment world, BUT NO! Everybody still love the Fame, Money & Paparazzi, just like the Nigeria Politics

This has been my fear for the music industry in Nigeria, it might not be that obvious now, but believe me, it is metamorphosing and I really hope the industry realizes this before it is too late. #GroomTheYoung

He Doesn’t Have To Say It Openly: Vector Reveals Why He Is Angry With M.I

Nigerian rapper, M.I Abaga ruffled some few feathers when he released his sing, “You Rappers Need To Fix Your Lives”. Vector was one of those who wasn’t too pleased with some of the lyrics of the track and he has finally revealed why he is angry with M.I. According to Vector, he is update that M.I bluntly stated S.A rappers were better than Nigerians. Speaking on his hurt, Vector said;

“No matter how much your parents flog you, they will not tell outsiders that you are a stupid child. He doesn’t have to say it openly that SA rappers are ‘killing’ Nigerian rappers. I have never said this before, but the simple truth is that we shouldn’t wash our dirty linen in public. It is fine to discipline people at home and I support that. If your children mess up, you can discipline them. “When Jay-Z released the Death of Auto-Tune, he addressed everyone and said they should all go back to rap music. He didn’t say a group of rappers is doing better than one group. I didn’t like the fact that he called out Nigerian rappers openly and was comparing us with SA rappers.”

 On why he is yet to collaborate with M.I, he said;

 “We tried to work together on two different occasions, but it just didn’t happen. The first time was when he sent a beat to me to work on and he was supposed to be on the remix of my song, King Kong. Classiq later took his verse and did very well. We can still do something together later in the future. It is music; it is nothing serious,” he noted.

Superstar Davido has downplayed insinuations and rumours that he is at war with some colleagues in the Nigerian music industry. There had been indications of a supremacy battle between the DMW boss and Starboy Wizkid. Davido, however, on Saturday night, while receiving the award for Musician of the Year at the 2017 edition of The Future Awards Africa said he is at dagger drawn with anybody. He said, “It’s been a great year for me. Thank you guys for this award. I also want us to all come together as Nigerians as one. I also want to say for this industry, me I no dey fight anybody ooh.”

Wizkid Wins Big In Just Concluded MOBO Awards 2017

MOBO Awards 2017
The 2017 Edition of the MOBO awards has ended. It is held annually in the U.K. to recognise artists of any ethnicity or nationality performing black music.
Stormzy came out the biggest winner of the night, while Nigeria’s Wizkid pulled up a big feat, defeating the likes of Jay Z, Cardi B, Kendrick Lamar and so on to win the Best International Act.
He was also nominated in the Best African Act category alongside Davido, Tekno, Tiwa Savage, Maleek Berry, Wande Coal, Mr Eazi and more. Davido emerged the winner.
Big ups to both of them! And, of course, all the other winners.

Kcee Offers Support For Skiibii As He Part Ways With Five Star Music

Former "Who WantsTo Be A Millionaire"Host Frank Edoho Lands A New Hosting Role Of Another TV Game Show

After being jobless for months, Frank Edoho lands a new role as the host of another TV game showAfter 13 years of hosting popular TV show, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Nigerian broadcaster Frank Edoho announced via a tweet that he’ll no longer anchor the show.
He tweeted;
“Kindly allow me announce,that after a disagreement in negotiations with @Ultimalimited I have decided to decline hosting WWTBAM any further.”

Now, LIB can confirm that Frank has landed a new hosting job. The celebrated broadcaster will be anchor of another TV game show called ‘The Price Is right’ and this time he’ll work with OAP, Mannie of Cool FM as the announcer.
The new show, ‘The Price Is Right’ is a popular gameshow with its origin in America and its widely known and reffered to as the oldest and most popular TV Game show in the world currently in over 50 countries.

It’s getting increasingly hard to hit stardom as a fast rising musician. Most of them are in the business for the wrong reasons with no real conviction as to why they are making music or what they hope to achieve with music and that’s why we keep having several absurd ‘Publicity stunts’ all in the name to ‘Blow‘.
Here are 10 honest questions every upcoming artist should sincerely ask themselves.
So Stop! Whatever you’re doing Stop! Go through this with sincerity and re-evaluate your stance in the music industry.
  1. Why do I make music? You must be able to answer this anywhere, and don’t tell me because it makes me happy or to pay the bills, that doesn’t cut it, there must be some honest depth to this answer. Some sort of strong conviction from within, not just because of the life.
  1. What aspect of music am I absolutely great at? What can you beat your chest and say I can compete at the highest level in this regard, maybe not exactly now but in a bit. The standard is not static, if you walk away after seeing where you need to improve, on coming back you would meet a different level of creativity. So where! Writing, rap, singing… where can you fit in and stand up to anybody. You need to know confidently your skill-set or work on a strong point if you lack that.
  1. How long? How long do you intend to make music, firstly you can’t do this for life FACT. So how long and what next, what’s your end game. Where does this end for you and how
  1. What’s the vision? Do you just want to ‘Blow’, get it like Wizkid or DavidoThat’s their story, what’s yours? You need to have a fulfillment point, and you absolutely need vision and direction as to where your own process is headed and what the plan is as you move.
  1. What’s your dream, what’s your reality? So you listen to the J.Cole‘s the Kendricks and you hear their start stories and it inspires you to ‘dream’, but my brother. the point is you can’t totally replicate another man’s dream. Not because of lack of talent or skill but because of reality. So let me hand you the facts, Nigeria’s population as at 2013 was 173.6million, as at 2014 the American population was 318.9million. So clearly you don’t have the same listening/interested population. The music structure abroad is not your reality, there are different stages there, you can have an Rnb concert PACKED, a rock concert PACKED, a metal concert PACKED, a hip-hop concert PACKED. Here we have only one stage, and we call it ‘blow’. We do not have the same structure so you have to study and learn what applies here and cross that with your own dreams and goals.
  1. The record label logic, Can You Justify this? If you work for money, you would value it. So it happens that you are signed or about to get signed. Here’s the thing, so some at the label says lets pay Artist X 1.2million to be on this song and also pay Artist Y 1.5million, mix and master the Music with the ‘best’ sound engineer 150,000, shoot with the best Director with about 2 million, logistics and all you’re headed up to 5 million on one song, and you’re dancing to Burna boy's ‘wetin you see na God e blessing’ you’re not alright sir. Considering further that the music hasn’t been promoted. How do you justify this, how much more will the label spend before you earn that? This is one of the reasons artists and labels fight, just plainly being unreasonable at the start. That 5million can work on a large catalogue of music and can run the project for sometime. Some silly ‘label’ moves defy logic. The reason you’re okay with that kind of spending is because you’re ignorant and you lack personal vision so any move with icing is a good move. Labels can sometimes blur things, keep your feet on the ground don’t rack up pointless debt.
  1. If the label system fails, what next? So we take it that number 6 is where you’re out of a label system, what would you honestly do. If that label drops you today what do you do next. Can you work and spend ‘your’ hard earned money on your own music. Ask yourself this now, because if you can’t pull it together when it falls apart please kindly quit now.
  1. How do you measure your growth? Where were you 6 months ago, where are you now. What kind of opportunities did you attract a year ago and what kinds do you attract now. You must be able to judge yourself critically but! You must be realistic and consider your own path, you can’t judge how far you have come by looking at another artist, they can be a point you look up to, but acknowledge your own successes and failings with perfect understanding that everyone’s process and progress is never the same. Set goals and follow through, have meetings with yourself and sometimes someone or group of people you truly trust to analyse your situation and set targets.
  1. The business, what do I need to know/learn? Digitization (selling the content on iTunes, Vevo and others), marketing, the coperate sector and all that stuff is a broader view of the business. You must outline why things are done, why you would spend this and a logical way to earn. Don’t spend without thought, there should be thought towards your financial management, so you must go out and learn ways to monetize what you have and ways to earn.
  1. God? Yes, God. I don’t know what you believe in or what your religion is but brother there is a God who is in perfect control of events and keeps the world in balance. Without faith in God, you CAN’T do this. Rely on him to guide you and have faith.

Proof Shows Iyanya Is No Longer With Mavin Records

Reports has it that the formal TrippleMG star Iyanya is no longer with Mavin Records after seeing him diassocites himself with anything relating to the Mavin's.
Iyanya notably changed his instagram bio to what seems to be his new record label and also his last single "Iyanu" doesn't have any mavin logo or produced by Mavin producers.
Unconfirmed rumours have it that the frosty relationship between Don Jazzy and label signee, Iyanya could have reached the climax forcing the former TripleMG artiste to use the exit door but meanwhile both parties maintain a loud silence thereby allowing rumours to fester

Amazing Love Story Of Ogochukwu And Abiodun :When A Yoruba Gentleman Marries His Igbo Princess:

Read this  Beautiful story we saw on Bellanaija, about two love birds, of different Ethnicity. The Bride is Igbo, while the Husband is Yoruba.
Enjoy:
Ogochukwu met Abidoun through a mutual friend at university. They chatted for sometime and lost touch because of her busy school schedule.
Years would pass before the couple would meet at a convocation party, fall in love and finally decide it was time to begin their forever journey together.
“…he patiently waited for me for years while I played busy till I went to him myself.” – Ogochukwu
Here is a little back story on how they met.
How We Met

One night, I was in my hostel when a friend called my phone. He wanted to obtain my permission to give out my mobile number to someone who had asked.
“Who?” I asked.
“His name is Biodun” he said
I had a vague recollection of him as the brother of a friend I went to church regularly with. I was quite pleased that he had the manners to insist I gave my permission first. I did not tarry with granting it
“Sure” I replied.
Biodun and I started chatting everyday, sending text messages back and forth and somewhere in my head, I thought I was giving him nerd tips on how to make female friends, oblivious to the fact that I was the fish.
He would send flash messages and texts and I always looked forward to them, they were usually pretty entertaining and educative.
However, for some twisted reason, I never saved his number. I enjoyed seeing his number whenever I got a message from him, it gave me a strange pleasure as opposed to seeing his name.
That way, I did not have to pick up my phone and reach out first and whenever I forgot to respond to his flash messages, reaching him was not possible. It was my subconscious, playing hard to get.
Soon after, my replies got fewer because I got very busy with school as my department was not to be toyed with.
Naturally, the frequency of his own messages dropped, he only reached out once in a blue moon and I had respond for a bit and then disappear as usual.
On his sister’s graduation day, it struck me that he would be around so I looked for her.
“What of Biodun?” I asked
She directed me to where I had find him. So my friends and I carried our Convocation food and drinks hunt to his location. I was a bit hurt he didn’t tell me he was going to be there but I was glad to see him.
“Have you guys eaten? He asked.
We kept smiling at each other.
Yes” I replied.
He offered us some more drinks. I thanked him and we continued our hunt at the next available canopy. Later on, he told me he was surprised I had looked for him and that urged him on.

One day, almost a year after the convocation, he reached out and we chatted for a bit. Again, I ran off, promising to get back to him later as I had my project defence the next day.
To his surprise and ultimately mine, I sent him a text when I was leaving school the next day and we ended up chatting till I got to Lagos. We made arrangements to meet at a mutual friend’s party that evening. I got there before him and had to deal with conversations I wasn’t interested in having. The minute I saw him walk in, fully dressed in his riding gear, I was filled with admiration and joy, my Knight in not so shiny armour had come to my rescue.
From that moment, I enjoyed every moment talking to him. That for me was the beginning.
He patiently waited for me for years while I played busy till I went to him myself.
How We Met,
The groom Abiodun‘s version
I heard of Ogo long before I saw her. She was one of the most talked about Jambites. I remember seeing her and thinking, she is a bit too light skinned for me. Now that I think about it, she fit all the physical attributes I wanted and more, except she was #TeamLightSkin.
A few years passed before we spoke to each other. I asked a mutual friend to introduce us. I was a chat person. I recall being stumped on her untimely response to messages, I am talking days here before she replied a “How’s it going” message. Perhaps those kinds of messages are to run of the mill (less painful way to say boring)
One of the memories that struck me was at my younger sister’s convocation, I was walking back to join the family only to see Ogo with her posse (she still thinks she was with one person) walking in my direction. I thought it was a coincidence until she said she was actually looking for me (Ghen Ghen). I tried to contain my excitement but I must not have done a great job of it. Later that night or perhaps the next day, I sent a message. Do you think she responded on time?
I had given up any hope of having an extended conversation until I saw a picture of her a friend put up. That picture woke up something that I still did not know was within me. I sent a message and to my surprise, she responded. After a few exchanges, she sent the dreaded “Will buzz you tomorrow”. In my mind, I was like “Yeah, bye Felicia”.
Tomorrow came, Lo and behold, she buzzed. The excitement!!! We chatted the whole day, met up with her at a friend’s party she attended. I don’t ride at night – bad eyesight and all but I did that night. Thinking back, she must know now that I hardly ever put myself in harm’s way like that.
The Proposal
From the bride, Ogochukwu,
We were alone in his friend’s car after an event when he called my attention to a tiny box with a ring in it. I thought he found it in his friend’s car and was playing around. So when he asked me to marry him, I laughed and told him he plays too much.
But he wasn’t.

I went from shocked to overjoyed as I did not see a proposal coming anytime soon.
We have come a long way through good and trying times. I have seen him try to become a better person for me, for us, and this is all that matters.
I give God all the glory.
The Groom, Biodun‘s version of the proposal
It was the month after completing her Youth service. The day was the 3rd of December 2016. It was at a Bike, Car and Fashion show organised by a mutual friend. I know she is a lover of bikes and fashion. It was an a typical proposal. No restaurant, no music, no friend(s), no on bended knee. I was going to return one of the bikes to Magodo Brooks estate. I asked if she could drive behind me. The irony, it was dark as well, throwback to the first time we hung out all those years ago. The danger I put myself because of this woman sha.
Anyway, I dropped off the bike without any accident (Thank God, as that bike was not/is not cheap). We were driving out of the estate, she was staring out the window thinking about God knows what. While driving (at snail’s pace, to the safety police reading this), I asked her to marry me.
It clearly took her by surprise, either that or we should consider a career for her in Nollywood (apologies, We must think bigger, Hollywood). She eventually saw the ring. What got to me was that I could tell she was all teary eyed but refused to lose her composure because she did not want to ruin her make up. SMH Ogo!
